Firefighters quickly extinguish Penn Hills blaze
Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish a fire Saturday afternoon in Penn Hills.
Officials said the fire started in the chimney of a house on Collins Street around 3:30 p.m.
Crews contained the fire to the chimney and everyone was able to safely get out of the house.
Penn Hills fire chief Randy Dolton said the fire probably started because of a buildup of creosote, which is residue left behind after burning coal or wood.
Dolton said it’s a good idea to have chimneys cleaned once a year.
